What browser works best when viewing ParentWatch streaming images?
ParentWatch works on Windows with the most recent versions of Netscape Communicator and Microsoft Internet Explorer, or on the MacIntosh with Netscape Communicator. Other browsers and platforms may or may not work, and are not supported by ParentWatch technical support. If you are an AOL user, we recommend that you use AOL version 4.0 or greater.
Windows 3.1 and WebTV are unable to display ParentWatch streaming images.
Please read below for browser information
Why can I view the Web site but cannot see any images?
If you are using AOL or Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0, you may have to change your settings. In AOL 4.0 & 5.0, click 1. "My AOL" 2. "Preferences" 3. "WWW" 4. Security 5. Set the "Safety Levels" to "Medium". For older versions of AOL, you will need to click on a button called "Safety Levels" and then set it to "Medium". In Internet Explorer 4.0, click 1. "View" 2. "Internet Options..." 3. The "Security" tab 4. Set the "Safety Levels" to "Medium". Internet Explorer 5.0, click 1. “Tools” 2. “Internet options” 3. “Security tab” 4. Local Intranet 5. Security Level - Medium
How do I upgrade to a more recent version of my browser?
The download is FREE from either the Microsoft, Netscape or AOL Web sites. After downloading, install your new browser and reboot your computer. Locate the icon for the browser you installed. For a Windows PC, go to your START menu and locate the icon for Netscape in your PROGRAMS submenu. For a Power Macintosh, find the folder containing your browser and double click the program icon.
I am using Microsoft Internet Explorer. When I went to view the video, a dialogue box came up asking me if I wanted to download ActiveX video control. What does this mean?
Answer YES. ActiveX is a necessary video plug-in for IE and will not cause your computer or network any harm. The download takes a few seconds. Once you have downloaded ActiveX, you will never be asked to download it again.
I am using Microsoft Internet Explorer. Instead of seeing images, I see a little box with a red X in the upper left corner of the image area.
The box with the red X indicates that Internet Explorer could not start the ActiveX software that it uses to display the video. This is usually because you have not installed the software. If the images have previously been appearing fine on your computer and now they are not, it may be that ParentWatch has released a newer version of the software that you have not yet installed.

When you see the red X, you should look at the flag in the upper right corner of your Internet Explorer window and the blue status bar at the bottom of your Internet Explorer window. If the flag is still waving and the blue bar is growing, this means that Internet Explorer is downloading the software.

Once the software has been downloaded, the images may start to appear, or you may see a prompt asking whether you want to install software from ParentWatch Inc. If so, click "Yes" or "Install" to proceed with the installation. If you are subsequently presented with one or more prompts stating that the software has not passed Windows XP Logo testing, press "Continue Anyway".

If the red X remains and you are not prompted, then check your Internet Explorer Security Settings to make sure that the "Download signed ActiveX controls" setting is set to either "Enable" or "Prompt", but not to "Disable". If it is set correctly but the red X remains, and you are using your employer's PC, you should check with your local IT support staff to be sure that the software is not being blocked by your corporate firewall, and that you have administrative rights on your PC that allow you to install the software.
I'm not seeing any images when I click on my child's room. I get a "Request failed" message or a "Status Code 502" message.
This is probably due to an Internet or equipment problem at the childcare center. While it is likely that we are already working to resolve the problem, click here to ensure that we know. Note: You will also get one of these messages if you attempt to access images before 8:00 AM or after 6:00 PM Monday through Friday.
How fast should the images update?
This will depend on the speed of your Internet connection. If you experience problems, please click "stop" on the browser toolbar and then click "Refresh".
The image I am receiving is blurry/out of focus.
The camera may need to be adjusted. Click here to tell us what's wrong so that we can correct the problem.
Do the cameras move?
The cameras are mounted with a swivel base that allows teachers at the center to adjust camera angles. This is the only way that the cameras can be moved.
The camera seems to have shifted away from the room.
Somebody at the child care center probably shifted it inadvertently. Click here to tell us what's wrong so that we can notify the child care center right away.
The video images are very dark and blurry between 12 - 2pm.
This is probably due to "nap time" which generally occurs between these hours. Since the children are napping, a staff member has probably either turned out or lowered the lights.
